Definitely seems like this place has seen better days. I rarely see it busy even during business hours and at lunch. However I had the chance to dine here for lunch recently with a coworker.
The menu is written on chalkboard, and the soup of the day is written in a separate chalkboard. I had the soup of the day (fire roasted tomato that day), a smoking jack sandwich, and a hot chocolate. The soup and the sandwich didn't amount to much at the end; the soup was fresh but lukewarm, while the sandwich wasn't anything special with the chicken being pre-cut pieces. Given the price I paid, it was definitely a bit steep for the quality I received. At least the hot chocolate was very good though.
Not a bad place for a quiet sit down overall, but don't expect much in terms of quality food or service. -

So this cafe brings me back to my university days. This was my hangout for coffee dates, late night hangout with friends, afternoon lunch dates with girlfriends and need to cram to study for an exam place. It's been awhile since I've been back, I was visiting Winnipeg and was actually meaning to go to a new coffee place across the street but for some reason was closed. I ended up at the back here. I ordered a latte. Place looked the same. Menu up on the board, desserts displayed behind the glass and a couple of workers behind the counter. Brought me back. I enjoyed my coffee seating on the bar facing Broadway, people watching and reminiscing.

Recently stopped in at The Fyxx for delicious pre-convention local coffee...and oh my goodness! The level of service I was treated to, by a 13-year veteran barista, was phenomenal! Not only were the coffee and back stories delicious, he gluten-freed and dairy-freed my breakfast sandwich, and instead of simply removing ingredients, he replaced them! With an savoury sweet and spicy homemade cranberry jam of sorts... to die for! One of the local food delivery services even makes Thy Fyxx available from home...well, your home...if you live in Winnipeg :D

It's a nice sunny spot meeting spot for lunch since it's located at the corner of Broadway and Donald. There's free wi-fi, smattering of people having light conversation and people working on their laptops. You order and pay first, then the staff brings you your food. The food is nice and light and runs about $10 for a lunch meal, not including beverages. I like their salads and have two favourite sandwiches. "Basil's faulty tower" has big chucks of real chicken and basil so it's a nice light sandwich (though not super flavourful). "Hercules" is another fave because it packs a lot of flavour, it has genoa salami, feta, spinach, tomatoes, red onion and a spicy mayo served on a panini. All their sandwiches come with either the soup special or salad (market or caesar). I like the caesar salad here, it's had good flavour without being overly garlicky.
Can't comment on their coffee as I only come here for lunch! Staff are nice here but I have to say I wish they had more comfortable chairs here.
Note: speed of service can be hit or miss...sometimes it's decent, but more often than not the assembly of sandwiches can be so slow during the work week lunch hour. No one really orders too many fancy drinks at lunch so I have no clue what's slowing them down at times. -

Terrible service! Ordered a coffee and a heated cinnamon bun. After a while I went up twice to get the bun and told them ' I have waited an hour for this bun'. Their reply was 'no it has been 50 minutes'. Hard to believe!
